If it helps, I really support this from a safety perspective:
Someone with the kind of opinions expressed and enacted by the mod who is getting all this support from his fosstodon peers represents a real potential risk to Eldritch Café users who may visit the US.
In a climate where the travel advisories now tell us that ESTAs must list birth sex (https://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fr/conseils-aux-voyageurs/conseils-par-pays-destination/etats-unis/#entree) but where travelling under documents that differ from the accompanying passport is clearly dubious, I don't think an instance that happily harbours someone so vocally anti-immigrant and anti-trans desrves to have have any federated access to servers that are friendly to trans people, or those who oppose borders, for that matter.
I'm not seeking to snitckjacket anyone nor do I claim this has happened, but especially after seeing the receipts posted on lemmy, I'd not trust fosstodon not to become a source of vindictive snitching if aggravated.
“The likely next PM of #Germany says that after the past week, it’s plain to him that Germany—one of the closest US allies since the aftermath of WWII -🚨needs to cast off from the US.
In a post-election TV appearance, Merz says “there Americans, this admin, mostly don’t care about the fate of Europe one way or another.” Europeans, he says, must now step up.”

#Trump’s presidency has felt like a death in the family, but for many of us, it’s worse…
Happy Birthday to Sister Mary Kenneth Keller (Dec 17, 1913 – Jan 10, 1985), the first PhD in computer science in the US.
In 1958, Keller began working at the NSF workshop in the computer science center at Dartmouth College, a male-only institution at the time, where she participated in the implementation of the first DTSS BASIC Kernel for the language, working under John G. Kemeny and Thomas E. Kurtz.

#COVID19 is over?
Thus far in 2024, COVID has caused 300,520 hospitalizations and 32,048 deaths in the US.
In SIX MONTHS, COVID has killed:
More than twice the ANNUAL death toll from gun homicides.
75% of the ANNUAL death toll in motor vehicle accidents.
4x the number of US fatalities incurred during the decades-long war on terror.
How is this anyone's definition of “over”?

@RobeeShepherd @corbden I keep forgetting that the Spectrum never really made it to the US.
In the near/middle east/swana/whatever, the MSX was the big 80s computer.
In January 2022, the Fed owned 24% of residential mortgages.
Meanwhile, a bunch of conservatives predicted that Blackrock would gobble up all real estate in the US.
In reality, it's the US government that's been gobbling up real estate (the Fed is controlled by Congress).
When residential foreclosures start ramping up, the Fed will ask Congress, "should we evict the people who can't pay anymore, or should we just let them live in government-owned houses for a while?"
