Having pitched digital ID as a means of dealing with illegal immigration, the prime minister now seeks to sell the scheme as a way to “cut the faff”, by making people’s lives easier by speeding up identity checks and saving money on administration.

    Credibility gaps and trust

    The problem Keir is that people don’t believe you. And they look at the loonier side of politics and realise that even if you are not in power for long enough to extend the scope of digital IDs, the next party to rule from the depts of Westminster probably will. And one way or the other, living monsters such as #Blair and #Ellison will be very happy to aid and abet them.
