Torres will never stop fighting for Bronx families. Torres believes safe and affordable housing is a human right. Torres’ landmark Ending Homelessness Act would guarantee federal housing vouchers to every qualifying Bronx household so that families in need pay no more than 30% of their income toward rent. Torres is fighting to hold slumlords accountable for not keeping their buildings safe. Torres wants to cap the Cross Bronx Expressway and create park space over the highway to stop the air pollution that harms Bronx residents. Torres secured $2 million to fund a feasibility study for the project. As hate crimes have increased across the country and in New York City, Torres has been a leading voice against bigotry and anti-Semitism. Torres introduced legislation to mandate anti-Semitism monitors at publicly funded colleges and universities to help ensure that Jewish students are safe. Torres is fighting to lift families out of poverty. Torres sponsored the American Family Act which would expand the Child Tax Credit up to $3,360 per child and expand eligibility for programs by removing income-based barriers that leave too many behind.
