Torres is forcing city government to end the open-air drug market in the Hub area of the South Bronx. Torres is demanding more police to crack down on the drug dealers, more access to treatment for those suffering from addiction, and more attention from the Sanitation Department to clean up garbage and trash regularly. Torres delivered over $43 million in federal funding for community projects in the Bronx. Torres secured investments for park renovations, upgrading schools and libraries, and local hospitals to improve care in the Bronx. For 30 years, the deadliest fires in New York have been in the Bronx. That is why Torres led the charge to pass national fire safety legislation that will improve fire safety standards and introduced legislation that forces stricter safety standards for the lithium-ion batteries for e-bikes that are the number one cause of fires in the Bronx. Torres was raised in the Bronx by a single mother who brought up three kids on minimum wage. He is the product of public housing, public schools, and public hospitals. Torres understands the struggles of many Bronx families and will always stand up for us, so we all have a fighting chance at a decent life.
