   In any case, let’s try to make an account migration the very last option. Not least of all because it’s the most disruptive for the person involved and the people following them.

   @phnt @sun @genmaicha The best is how everyone links to centralized versions of every JavaScript and font instead of hosting a single thing. “For speed.”

   Who knew web designers just wanted GeoCities all along?

   It breaks every page in countries that block those servers.

   In China the text would appear and then vanish off the page for 180 seconds while it waited for a packet that never came. It got so bad that I had to run our own office DNS to hijack all those domains and fail speedily.

   This graph of Pixelfed instances is what’s most worrying to Meta.

   A measure of a decentralized social network’s sucess isn’t new users, or MAUs, or even engagement. It’s the active amount of servers.

   In Pixelfed’s case, servers have more than doubled within a month.

   And by the way, this data is accurate because fedidb.org is run by @dansup – who’s the brains behind Pixelfed.

   Now seems like a pretty good time to re-link my proposal from October that news organizations stand up Mastodon servers.

   In the proposal, I explain why a news organization (and other organizations) might want to have their own Mastodon (or other social network service) hosted on their subdomain, e.g. follow.washingtonpost.com.
