The objectively best president is without a doubt Lincoln. The president who surprised me the most was John Quincy Adams. Despite his term being lackluster due to a hostile congress, his entire career was superb. He was one of the leading voices against slavery before the Civil War. Even tho | disagree with him economically Gerald Ford was surprisingly decent despite being a republican (he actually supported the Equal Rights Amendment and was Pro-Choice). Book wise there are many. | would say Grant by Ron Chernow was probably the best out of the ones | read for the challenge. The trilogy | read on Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris was also spectacular. The book on Gerald ford by Richard Norton Smith
