I am writing to you now as a concerned citizen and ally of the transgender community regarding the recent executive order, "Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government." This order has already suspended the processing of all applications from Americans seeking to update their passports with a new gender marker, leaving them without access to their passports & supporting documents. If passed, this policy would put people at risk - the act of crossing into another country with a passport that doesn’t reflect their gender accurately would be dangerous. This legislation is harmful and unnecessary. Our government should focus on protecting and expanding rights, not taking them away.
