"Navigation, Guidance & Control for the Comet Interceptor flyby" by Sasaki Takahiro & Sakatani Naoya (JAXA). Comet Interceptor is an ESA-led mission to make a flyby of a long-period comet. JAXA is developing one of the two ultra-small probes that will enable images to be captured from different locations. A flyby is a rapid “one-chance event”. The probe must operate autonomously, with no time for help from ground control, successfully identify and image the comet with minimal prior information, and withstand any collisions from dust. It’s a unique challenge for the team!
