   45 promised to replace the income tax with tariff revenue. But he backed off of placing tariffs Canada and Mexico. Why?

   Because he was lying about replacing income taxes with tariffs.

   (The United States cannot raise the same amount of money from tariffs that it does from income taxes, so reality slapped the math-less Fuckface McFuckington First Earl of Fail in the face.)
