A standing dead tree by the side of the brook has eleven plate-shaped shelf mushrooms growing straight out from the bark from all sides of the tree. Each mushroom is reddish and aged brown in lots of spots. They range from 5-10 inches. 10 of them have recently fallen snow on top, nearly covering their entire caps. The 11th, is directly below one of the others so no snow was able to accumulate. There is a tangle of greenish-yellow moss at the base of the tree. The ground is covered in snow. The background is blurry to call attention to the fungi.
