   People who say Hitler was a socialist / the Nazis were socialists, are lacking in the most rudimentary historic knowledge.
   
   It was already a running theme by 1931 that Hitler was merely doing lip service to the proletariat. Here's a caricature from that year pointing that out.
   
   Translation/explanation because the text is small and in German:
   
   At the top, he's speaking to the proletariat, and the words "National" and "German" are tiny, while "Socialist" and "Workers' Party" are written large.
   
   (The full name is "National Socialist German Workers' Party.")
   
   At the bottom, he's speaking to the wealthy, and the small and large words are swapped.
