A male Downey woodpecker visiting our bird feeder this morning. The image is crap, cell phone at maximum zoom. The red swatch at the back of his head and start black on white feathers were quite lovely!

   A downy woodpecker visited our feeder today in Denver. He's chilling on a rose branch and competing with a particularly aggressive sparrow that's been running everyone else off. This little boy circumvented that by grabbing the bars on the side of the feeder, not the perches so he could come in from overhead and get some foot. Including the woodpecker there are at least five species out there this morning!
   Sorry for the crappy cellphone pic, it's what I have on me and the feeder is only about 10 feet away from the sofa!
