On the coffee shop counter, surrounded by cutlery and plates and a reusable cup: a cardboard ad for the Reusable Aarhus trial that the council has launched in a bid to cut down on the amount of single-use waste. You pay a deposit of 5 kr. (less than €1) for your takeaway coffee cup, then get your money back at one of the cup-recycling stations all around the city. The (Danish-language) ad has info about how it works and points out that there is no need to download an app or sign up as a member. ‘Ingen pis.' Literally: ‘no piss’, in the sense ‘no bullshit’ or ‘no messing around’. (Att: Reply Guys: Yes, there is also a QR code on it that you can use to find the nearest recycling machine, but you aren’t coerced to scan it as the only way to get this information. The staff will tell you, or you can look with your offline eyes because the machines are highly visible on the streets, including one just outside the door of this coffee shop, or you can look locations up on the website.)
