Closeup photograph of a leaf cutter bee in flight and approaching the interior of a hot pink lily (likely an Asiatic lily). The bee is flying right to left in profile and its lower abdomen is covered in a dense layer of orange pollen. Leafcutter bees store pollen on the underside of their abdomen as opposed to the pollen baskets on the hind legs of other bee species. This leafcutter species has similar features to honeybees with a yellow and black striped abdomen, a dark thorax and head covered in fine hairs, two antennae, three simple eyes on the forehead, and two compound eyes facing forward, six legs, and transparent wings with dark veining.
