Calligraphy piece on grey-beige textured paper. Thin black double lines form a rectangular border, broken only by ginkgo leaves and stems done in black, white, and gold. The text is a poem by Johann-Wolfgang von Goeth, formed of small modern Roman letterforms in white ink, words separated by the given punctuation or tiny dots. Poem text reads: "Ginkgo Biloba... To my garden here translated, Foliage of this eastern tree Nourishes the initiated with it's meanings mystery. Is its leaf one self divided, Forked into a shape of strife? Or have two of them decided on a symbiotic life? This I answer without trouble And am qualified to know I am single I am double; And my poems tell you so." The author's name is inked in tiny capitals thread through the illustration at the top.
