   "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity."

   ...except you can't do the exact same thing twice because circumstances change every time. The burden is on the user of that cliche to show circumstances are sufficiently constrained, and the behavior sufficiently similar, to make the cliche relevant.

   By that point, maybe just explain your expected outcomes and suggest a credible alternative.
