A brilliant blue hummingbird with a small white slice of nape sits on a bare snag. The dark shadow behind the bird makes the background look black, causing the brilliant blue head and shimmering greeny-blue body to stand out. This is the White-necked Jacobin. While this is the standard adult male form, about 10% of the birds in this plumage are now known to be females while 90% of females have a different plumage. This is a very widespread successful & easy to find hummingbird, but this particular birb was photographed in Arena Blanca, Peru. Photo by Peachfront. Nov 2024.
