@GossiTheDog well, here's where it gets complicated. Read that article. We (as in .NET, speaking as a member of the Foundation and NOT FOR) do have reasons.

Basically per MS, *.azureedge.net is a TEMPORARY solution only because of the CDN going poof, and customers should migrate to a custom domain ASAP. So, azureedge.net *is* essentially going away. Just not immediately going away.

@GossiTheDog so I can explain the whole "use azureedge.net wait no don't" thing.

Microsoft is providing a method to migrate to Azure Front Door while retaining the *.azureedge.net domain, but passive (automatic) migrations will only get best effort.

Microsoft can't cloud anymore, because one of their providers, edg.io, is bankrupt (and instead of doing the clouding themselves, which they could have been doing, they did not, and now suddenly have to move a lot of things around).

Microsoft assures us that "No other party will ever have access to use these domains", so maybe they will not immediately become malware distribution endpoints.

If you had been using Azure CDN, you have work to do.

    • Digicert dropped IPv6.

A lot of other people may also be affected.

azureedge.net domain and related Azure services are expected to stop working very soon as Azure's provider, Edgio, has gone bankrupt.

Microsoft is forcing .NET developers to quickly update their apps and developer pipelines so they do not use 'azureedge.net' domains to install .NET components, as the domain will soon be unavailable due to the bankruptcy and imminent shutdown of CDN provider Edgio.
