This is a clip from 1999 television series, Angel, which was showrun by Joss Whedon for the WB until 2004. In this clip, the newly recurring character named Charles Gunn, who is portrayed by Black actor J. August Richards, who at this point was probably like in his 20's. He has a bald head and he's wearing a navy blue durag in this scene. He's dressed in a navy blue long-sleeved shirt with what looks to be a waterproof slate-gray vest. The character of Gunn was instructed by Angel to cause a scene in the very-white and very-demonic bougie-ass legal firm of Wolfram and Hart. Gunn bursts through the front doors and, while gesturing wildly, begins to randomly yell about being Black while all series' regulars check their watches at the same time, making sure their timing is in sync.

alright so, if you're a white person and you've never watched buffy, i want you to watch this scene and take account that 100% of the writers on angel were white people. there were twelve people total in the writing room (including joss whedon) when this dialogue was written. this is what i mean when i say "watching joss whedon pretend to know what black people sound like". something about this feels so uncanny valley because the blackness in this show was nonexistent #blackontv
