Both conditions in the clean chambers and the surrounding clean rooms are periodically monitored by the same methods as those conducted by the Astromaterials Acquisition and Curation Office at NASA Johnson Space Center. When samples are distributed to researchers worldwide, containers sealed in nitrogen in the clean chambers are used. We do not insist that particular protocols are followed by researchers who receive our asteroid grains scientific study, but do hope sufficient precautions are taken to allow the planned research to be carried out successfully. -- Yada Toru, Astromaterials Science  Research Group

Once back in Japan, the asteroid sample was opened in a clean chamber under vacuum or filled with pure nitrogen and which had been scrubbed cleaner than you can ever be and live. When asteroid grains are sent to another research laboratory, they're sealed in nitrogen inside one of the squeak clean chambers.
