Detail of a painting titled La Pucelle by Frank Craig (1907), housed at the Musée d'Orsay, Paris (RF 1977 122). The artwork depicts Joan of Arc mounted on a white horse, leading an assault during a battle in the Hundred Years' War. Joan is dressed in white armor, carrying an unfurled banner, while surrounded by chaos. Red lances streak across the scene, and soldiers on horseback engage in battle behind her. The dynamic movement of the galloping horse and the vivid red lances adds intensity to the scene. This work was exhibited in 1908 at the Paris Salon. Joan of Arc, a French national heroine, was beatified in 1909.
