A dead branch of a tree covered with mushrooms and leaves. Nearly always found in coniferous woodlands, common rustgills feed on dead material and appear on stumps, logs, woodchip and cones. The golden or orange-yellow to brown-yellow, smooth, domed to flat cap grows to 2 to 5 cm in size. The edge of the cap is lighter in color.
