Happy International Mens Day, everyone!
I am (as always) tempted to be extremely silly and make a load of jokes, but it is a rare opportunity to actually be a positive force for change. Particularly considering that I am a man and I don't know if you're aware of this but men are not always like totally 100% cool, y'know?
So. I am asking you today to think about positive male role models. For every Andrew Tate (who is no longer part of International Mens Day - we all got together and voted him out), there is a Gareth from my running club, who dedicates his time to nurturing young men who are struggling, or a Ken who took me in and housed me when I was homeless and hopeless.
These heroes are almost always unsung, and if you search online for positive male role models, you are unlikely to find examples; only examples of toxic ones. Which is obviously quite sad. We need more positive role models.
I'm not talking about someone who grows a moustache for a month or does a charity walk - I'm talking about men who effect consistent positive change in their community or as an example to the young men of tomorrow. Obviously to other children aswell, but I am interested in men who serve as a positive example, growing future positive change from the roots, which is the only way we are going to move forwards.
Challenging the precept that being good or kind or vulnerable compromises our masculinity.
So I just want to beam all of you Kings out there all the best. Together, men strong (like apes, only I said men, and I meant emotionally, not like in a tug of war or anything).
Remember to support each other and yourselves. We all struggle sometimes and IT IS OK TO ASK FOR HELP. x
