A male Allen’s hummingbird is perched prettily on the end of a pine twig body facing the camera, head tilted upwards with a foot lifted to scratch itchy new feathers. The bottom half of his gorget is missing replaced by tiny new pin feathers that look like itty bitty porcupine quills. Green foliage frames him with a bit of morning sky showing through.
