Bottom of my stand of bamboo. It had many green stalks of varying thickness and some bamboo leaves. Around one thick, green bamboo stalk there is a brown stalk curling around and up the stem.

   This morning I started pruning the bamboo. It is flowering at the moment. I cut off leaves branching from the bottom of the large tall stalks so that you can more easily see the stalk. I also remove new stalks growing where I don't want them. It is much easier to do this when they are young as you can rip them out of the ground, roots and all.

   You can see in this photo the brown stem of a dipladenia which I have encouraged to grow up the bamboo.

   I am leaving some leaves and lower branches to make it look OK. I may prune them in a couple of months.
