In the foreground is a 5' round table made from the side of a large cable spool. Behind it is a rustic gazebo some German friends dubbed the open hogan, as it sits next to a log hogan, behind which is my 20' tipi. The 16' eventually wore out, so I upgraded, painted a red & black pattern on the bottom to help prevent the edge from rotting, and ravens flying out the door, up & around back, transitioning into bear tracks coming up & around the front to disappear in the smoke hole. On the left the cottonwood trees along the river are bare, and Bald Mountain in the distance is snow covered under partly cloudy sky. The tipis, the sweat lodges, the medicine pipes, the offerings to the grandfathers, the canoes made of cedar, ... I guess could be considered appropriations, I didn't ask permission to make them a part of my life. I'm sorry NDN people, no harm intended. My life wouldn't be what it is without them. Though there are distant Tsalagi ancestors none of my family for the past 5 generations has identified as such, or lived in that way. None of us identify as Sardinian, Polish Jews, French, Irish, Scots, English, or ? either. Just as whites living in Canada & the US, as did the full blooded Tsalagi woman who, for whatever reason, married an Irishman nearly 200 years ago. We are all just human beings crawling around on this amazing planet, and given the dire straits we have created, we should use our best judgement to choose the path forward and share what good things we can.
