Photograph of a monarch butterfly atop a cherry-red zinnia I planted for a neighboring business. This zinnia variety has red, overlapping petals that radiate from a center filled with yellow and brown florets. The butterfly is facing right leaving the right side of its body in profile and it has its proboscis inserted into one of the flower's yellow florets. Monarch butterflies have orange wings with black and white patterned edges and black veining. The have black bodies and heads covered with white polka dots and fine black hairs. They have two large, black compound eyes, two long, black antennae, and six black, segmented legs.
