Unicoi County Flood Jimmy Erwin, Incident Commander For Immediate Release: September 28, 2024 Erwin, TN-Flash flooding in the wake of Hurricane Helene prompted the Unicoi County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) to request multiple resources from throughout the state to aid in search and rescue operations and damage assessment throughout the county. There are 33 estimated missing, and no confirmed deaths. Wastewater services have failed, and a boil water advisory is in effect for all of Unicoi County until further notice. Approximately 75% of the water has receded, allowing for search and rescue operations that are currently under way. The Nolichucky River is estimated to have swelled approximately 30 feet, causing widespread destruction of property and structures. "We are extremely proud of the selfless response mounted immediately and decisively by our local responders, who continue to work alongside assisting agencies to assess the extent of damage," said Incident Commander Jimmy Erwin, Director of Unicoi County EMA.
