    It is possible to remain fit into your years. I don't know what that has to do with the price of fish.

    At any rate, if you are looking at an aggregate figure (such as the distribution of shirt sizes) then *usual* case (that one gains weight as one ages) is what you expect to see. If you're looking at a distribution and it moves, you can reason that something happened. If the thing that happened can be explained by looking at a thing that happened to everyone, then you can roll with that until you have evidence to the contrary.
