It may be they're just running up the flag to see who salutes.
But if it's true (as reported in the Sunday Express) that Labour are considering removing the discount on council tax from single occupancy homes, then it's even worse than it sounds.
The Express have dubbed it a "widows tax".
But it's not just the bereaved or the divorced. Those classed as "Severely Mentally Impaired" are also not counted for occupancy for council tax purposes.
In effect, if this goes ahead, those unpaid carers living with Alzheimers and dementia patients will suddenly have to find hundreds of pounds a year extra.
I don't think that would be the Labour government people thought they were voting for.
