Photo by me: The Bird of the Century mural, by Kiran Parbhu Photography. They wrote: "I've had a great time working on this mural down on Ghuznee Street. It's a monument to the Forest & Bird 'Bird of the Century' competition, with all the birds and a cheeky Last Week Tonight with John Oliver cameo. A big mihi to Wellington Electricity for making this happen." The mural is the entire front of an electrical substation in downtown Wellington. The the center is a giant flamboyant pūteketek with John Oliver peeping over its shoulder. On the right and left are profiles of all the other birds glaring at Oliver and the pūteketek.

The US is asleep: come with me on a journey about birds.
It's Bird of the Year time here in Aotearoa New Zealand and friends I had NO idea.
I knew about the event of course. John Oliver has his own mural here in Wellington.
