Earlier this year, Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the initial indictment because she found that Smith had been unconstitutionally appointed to his position and, as a result, did not have the power to bring the indictment at all. Jack Smith’s latest move to revive an indictment against President Trump is an attempt to influence the 2024 presidential election and thwart the former president’s electoral prospects.
