Photo of 3 Tachineputa floats on display at the Tachineputa no Yakata (Tachineputa Museum) in Goshogawara City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. The floats, which are over 20 m tall and weigh about 19 metric tons, are constructed with paper stretched over a wooden frame and are lit with light bulbs from inside. The top half of the towering floats are taken up by colourfully painted sculptures of mythical characters and the angular lower half forms the intricately decorated pedestal for the sculptures. These 3 principal floats were assembled and stored in the museum, which resembles NASA's Vertical Assembly Building. Each year from 4 August to 8 August the 3 floats exit the museum to be paraded in the streets of Goshogawara. #myPhoto

Visited the Tachineputa no Yakata (Tachineputa Museum) in Goshogawara, Aomori Pref. Missed the Tachineputa Festival by about a week.
Didn't know that the huge tachineputa floats were only revived in 1998. Seems overhead electricity cables caused the floats to die out, but discovery of float blueprints in the early 90's led to a revival and burying the city power lines made parades possible again.
