Rubin Observatory staff install the secondary mirror on the telescope. The telescope is tipped on its side for the installation, and the work is happening between the upper two teal support structure rings that appear vertically edge-on on either side of the image. At center, a staff member works from a scaffolding platform. The mirror is a thick disk, partially visible edge on and in place in the middle of the telescope. Two additional staff supervise from a crane bucket above.

We officially have glass on the telescope! 🤩
Last week, Rubin Observatory staff safely installed the 3.5-meter secondary mirror—the first glass to be installed on the telescope! 🥳
Until now, testing the telescope was done using steel "surrogate" masses. But finally, it's time to put the telescope together for real🤩
With the first glass installed, we're in the final stretch of construction and on track to #CaptureTheCosmos in 2025!
