   For one thousand days, Gaza has existed between life and death. Our endurance is no longer breaking news; it has become a painful question confronting the world.

   As a journalist from the Gaza Strip, I have lived through the genocide since its very first day. I am still trying to remain strong, not for my own sake, but for the mission I believe I was born in Gaza to fulfill. It is a mission that goes beyond personal pain, becoming a testimony to an entire era in which human beings are being erased before the eyes of the world."

   As a journalist from Gaza, I know there are countless stories that have yet to be told. Behind every destroyed building lies the history of a family. Behind every empty chair is someone we still mourn. Behind every survivor is a story of resilience that deserves to be heard.

   In the end, we are still here.

   We are still bearing witness.

   Because what remains untold about Gaza is far greater than anything the world has heard so far."

   Overfishing.org contained both an introduction to the issue of #overfishing, and #teaching resources. See attached some evergreens (low resolution, DM me for high res).

   There's the "what, why, how" #infographic, #satellite imagery of #BottomTrawling in the Dutch #Waddensea #environment, and a poster with #trawling all around the world.

   As I'm #sad to see the website go I've renewed the #domain for one more year and am happy to "donate" it to a good cause. Any interest: DM me.

   It's Friday! Woohoo! The dancers had a bit of a crisis today, with the first dance they attempted being slightly beyond their capabilities given the time they had to learn it. They will return to it at some point, I am sure, but in the meantime they're clapping some more sparkles into the world.

   ## Towards Complementary Foundation Models

   An LGM will be useful for more than mere positioning. In order to solve positioning well, the LGM has to encode rich geometrical, appearance and cultural information into scene-level features. These features will enable new ways of scene representation, manipulation and creation. Versatile large AI models like the LGM, which are useful for a multitude of downstream applications, are commonly referred to as “foundation models”.

   Different types of foundation models will complement each other. LLMs will interact with multimodal models, which will, in turn, communicate with LGMs. These systems, working together, will make sense of the world in ways that no single model can achieve on its own. This interconnection is the future of spatial computing – intelligent systems that perceive, understand, and act upon the physical world.

   As we move toward more scalable models, Niantic’s goal remains to lead in the development of a large geospatial model that operates wherever we can deliver novel, fun, enriching experiences to our users. And, as noted, beyond gaming Large Geospatial Models will have widespread applications, including spatial planning and design, logistics, audience engagement, and remote collaboration.

   The path from LLMs to LGMs is another step in AI’s evolution. As wearable devices like AR glasses become more prevalent, the world’s future operating system will depend on the blending of physical and digital realities to create a system for spatial computing that will put people at the center.

   I am holding in my thoughts the technical and support staff still at Twitter. It's been a hard month.

   I think some of them are probably holding on to keep a well-paying job, especially in the current job market.

   But I think others are holding on because they believe the service they provide is important to society and the world.

   As things go wrong there, I'm trying to keep a mindset of gratitude for the hard work they're doing.
