when something like this happens in the course of primary research, there are three options:
(1) conclude that the measurements are wrong, the instruments are faulty, or there's been some other mistake, and try to make the anomaly disappear;
(2) accept the impossible (in this case, that the seafloor produces oxygen); or
(3) revise your framing. is there something you forgot to account for that's causing this?
