That’s due in part to the fact that caregiving for young children is considered a private responsibility in the U.S., unlike in many other high-income countries, said University of Miami economist Stefania Albanesi. Her work has shown that the U.S. devoted substantially less public spending, as a share of gross domestic product, to families than other developed countries."
