Animated image: A glass disk of a donkey kicking viewed in Eadweard Muybridge’s zoöpraxiscope. Source: history-cooperative dot org / first-movie-ever-made Depicts a round disk with a central label and spindle hole, as one would see on a vinyl record. Around the outer edge, a loop of silhouettes of sixteen donkeys appear in various stages of kicking out their back legs, bringing their legs in and coming four feet off the ground, and then coming to rest in a standing position. As the image animates, the central label can be seen to rotate. The donkeys appear to remain stationary relative to the label, each moving progressively through each stage of motion, giving the fluid impression that all sixteen are kicking independently.

Imagine if Usians had a political system wherein there was nothing presumptive, no one nominated, no post to be first past, and no all for any winner to take…

Imagine if Usians had a democracy, rather than be haunted every so many years by spectral signification of a Rube Goldberg fever-dream zoöpraxiscopic contraption that is more about protracted, obstreperous, doctrinal spectacle than government, whether by the people or anyone else.
