Aforementioned PY32 chip on a deadbug harness made out of a pin header and solid core wire. The center pad of the PY32 QFN package is soldered directly onto a pin. The rest of the pads are connected to pins via solid core wire. The pin header is clamped in pcbite-like standoffs.

@obot50549535 This is surface mount (QFN; edit: actually DFN). You can just reflow it.
If you're very bored (and hate yourself the exact right amount to do this without optical magnication), you can also dead bug it :).
