Until 1956 it was commonplace to give a small quantity of red wine to children in France. It was served in school cafeterias and considered both healthy and a good way to teach children to appreciate the taste rather than the alcoholic value (it was cut with water to decrease the alc %).
In 1956 it was banned for children under 14. 🍷 🤦
