In foreground is a hill of yellow sunburst squash and to the rear is a hill of zucchini. Under the leaves, on the ground I've laid 6 inch wide by 24 inches long pine boards directly on the ground. Damp brown garden soil all around the plants.

   I have deployed my "bug boards" under the squash plants. It makes it easy to pick them off using my "sticky-stuff" on a stick method. Been getting Cucumber beetles, squash bugs and squash beetles. I do not mulch under the squashes, so the bugs naturally migrate to under the boards. I also use sticky traps baited with pheromones specific to cucumber beetles and squash vine borers as detailed in earlier posts.
