Two thermometers, both with small numbers that have been circled for emphasis. The number on the left thermometer is 73, on the right is 54.

Does anyone know what the tiny standalone numbers on analog thermometers correspond to? I always see them marked in the lower range of temperatures but never knew what they mean. They change between thermometers, and often aren’t placed on the same scale as the other numbers.
