I invited all my neighbors over for a meet-and-greet last night. Several were obviously confused to learn I'm "Ryan" — British people aren't used to it being a unisex name. I heard one ask my partner ask "who is this lady?" (clearly referring to me), and they looked a bit confused when I introduced myself.
Nobody asked for an explanation, and neither my partner nor I offered one, though my partner found more explicitly gender neutral ways to refer to me than strictly necessary.
I imagine there will be some curiosity-driven gossip, but they'll figure it out eventually.
It was pretty clear that the overwhelming sentiment was "you invited us into your home, which you aren't turning into an AirBnB, so we love you!".
