   I think many of them love Biden because he serves as a legitimizing figure and role model for being a respectable, polite racist.

   In this respect, Biden is the older white liberal's Trump. He gives voice and expression to a racial hatred they have kept from public view, and he does it in a way that meshes well with their politics.
