AFTER LYNN CONWAY TRANSITIONED IN 1968, SHE LOST HER FAMILY AND WAS FIRED FROM HER JOB AT IBM. SHE HAS BEEN A TIRELESS ADVOCATE FOR TRANS RIGHTS AND AN INSPIRATION FOR TRANS LEADERS EVERYWHERE. SOPHIE LABELLE SHE WENT ON TO PIONEER THE MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY THAT POWERS YOUR SMARTPHONE. SHE WAS A LEGEND, AN ICON AND A TRAILBLAZER. SHE WILL BE THOROUGHLY MISSED. R.I.P. LYNN CONWAY (1938-2024) THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

    Lynn Conway was remarkable in a number of ways but I think the reason her death hits me so hard even though I didn’t know her personally is the most unremarkable thing about her: One of us got to live her life quietly, grow old, and be remembered fondly as herself in death.

    I think that’s all I really want.
