Chart: Estimated U.S. Variant Proportions by Common Name Sources: Centers for Disease Control, CoV-Lineages, NYITCOM, World Health Network, others [ beadsland on Ko-fi ] A reskin of CDC's Variants Nowcast. Elides CDC's legend spam, emphasizing significant variants, including those appearing in GISAID yet not broken out by CDC. Five rectangular tree-charts, side by side, for fortnights through May 26-June 8. Legend organized by subheadings, of color-grouped families and significant convergent clusters. Percentages overlay each color key, reflecting share as of most recent tree-chart. Almost all JN.1 fam. Over three quarters are SLip cluster, including KP FLiRT variants, accounting for half of total. For week of May 12-25, packed bubble charts fill many tiles, indicating diversification of those variants—per GISAID—that wouldn't otherwise be apparent given CDC's choices of what to break out or not. Legend: JN.1 + FLiRT [purples] 22% - KP.2.3† & other KP.2 15% - LB.1 8% - KP.1.1 3% - JN.1.16.1 / LF 2% - KS.1 JN.1 + SLip [reds] 25% - KP.3 4% - JN.1.11.1 / KP 3% - XDV.1 2% - JN.1.16 JN.1 + S:T572I [brown] 8% - JN.1.7, KW.1.1, JN.1.8.1, JN.1.32, KQ.1, JN.1.4.3 / KQ & KV.2 Pirola-fam [blue] 5% - JN.1.13.1 / KS, JN.1.18, JN.1.13 & other Pirola-fam JN.1 Pirola [green] 0% - other Pirola BA.2.86 Other [greys] 0% - BA.2.12.1 / BG ⅜% - XDP, Arcturus XBB.1.16, XBB.1.16.6 / JF, Kraken XBB.1.5, four tracked variants at <⅟₁₀₀₀% & other Omicron-2 BA.2 ⅗% - Other (not specified)

Fifth week of SLip (S:F456L) wave, edge into first week of FLiRT wavelet.

Possibly short-lived, as leading FLiRT variant KP.2 already overshadowed by non-FLiRT (S:Q493E) KP.3.

CDC breaks out FLiRT variant LB.1 (notably, not of KP clan), SLip variant XDV.1, and non-SLiP (S:T572I) JN.1.4.3 / KQ.

KP.2.3, already significant in GISAID data, not yet broken out by CDC.
