Closeup photograph of a native Eastern prickly flower in my garden. The flower is in the foreground and a cacti pad and brown mulch is visible in the background. Prickly pear cacti have overlapping, teardrop-shaped petals that have thin, papery edges as well as a short, pointed tip at the end of each petal. The petals radiate from a center filled with a large number of yellow stamens with pale-yellow anthers as well as large pale-yellow pistil. Prickly pears often have yellow petals that transition to orange near the flower's center. This bloom has yellow petals without the orange transition.
