Faiza Shaheen Today, with a heavy heart, I have made a decision to resign from the Labour Party Since the Conservatives won powere in 210, I have used all the tools available to me - from my research to my activism - to fight them on public spending cuts, inequality and divisive narratives. This is why to leave the Labour Party now, on the cusp of finally seeing the Tories out of government and a time when I should be celebrating, is crushing. I have campaigned for the party as its candidate since I was reselected in2 022 - and previously at the 2019 General Election, achieving the highest ever vote for Labour in my area. ... Being removed as a candidate has been cruel and devastating, especially after local voters and party members have placed so much fath in me. Today's NEC was the last chance for the party to recognise its mistake and reinstate my candidacy. Unfortunately, it failed to do so. ... I have been penalised for describing my experiences of Islamophobia and been dismayed at the hierarchy of racism that exists in my own party. ... My removal shows that the desires of local members and my community mean nothing to the people at the top of the party. I cannot, in all conscience, continue to contribute to a party that seems to thin so little of people like me and has moved so far away from my values. I will not beg and grovel to earn my place - I want to be treated as an equal and with the respect afforded to others. (edited for length)
