   We welcome the EU Council's adoption of a new sanctions regime against Russia.
   
   The new framework is part of a broader EU policy to support those who dare to speak out against Russia's brutal war of aggression in Ukraine and the related disinformation spread by the Russian regime.
   
   It includes designations of persons involved in human rights abuses and denial of the repressive apparatus goods and technologies that can be misused for internal repression.
