Will-o’-Wisps Banished by Swearing: In the Storkow area a priest once drove home late in the evening with his aide, and when they reached a certain location they saw a little glowing man advancing into their direction which jumped merrily in front of their horses. Soon several more appeared until finally there were so many that the horses took fright and no longer wanted to move from their spot. Then the priest grew anxious as well and started to pray loudly. But the more he prayed, the more of the creatures came, until finally the aide said: “No, stop this, in this manner they won’t leave. But I will drive them away!” and with this he shouted: “Will you leave, in the Devil’s Name!” and immediately all of them dispersed. Source: Kuhn, A. and Schwartz, W.
